Ethiopia

Ethiopia is a country located in the Horn of Africa, bordered by Eritrea to the north, Djibouti to the northeast, Somalia to the east, Kenya to the south, South Sudan to the west, and Sudan to the northwest. Its official language is Amharic and its population is approximately 114 million people. Ethiopia is known for its rich history, diverse culture, and beautiful landscapes. It is also known for being the birthplace of coffee and for its vibrant music scene, including the popular genre of traditional music called “Eskista”. Despite ongoing challenges such as poverty, food insecurity, and political instability, Ethiopia has made significant progress in recent years in terms of economic growth and infrastructure development. The country is also working towards promoting sustainable tourism and preserving its natural and cultural heritage for future generations.

“Oromay” is a novel by Ethiopian author Bealu Girma, published in 1983, is a highly controversial book which literally means “The End”. In this book the author boldly criticized the then officials of the Derg regime in Ethiopia.

Fikr Eske Mekabir” or “Love to the Grave”, published in 1968, is a classic Ethiopian novel which tells the story of a young peasant, Bezabh, and his struggle against traditional feudalism and oppressive landowners in rural Ethiopia. The novel explores themes of justice and struggle for freedom in a changing society, and is widely considered to be one of the most important works of modern Ethiopian literature.

Giracha Kachiloch” is a novel by the Ethiopian author Adam Reta published in 1997. The book is a story of Mezgebu, an introverted child raised by an abusive father and step-mother. It spans from his childhood in Nefas Mewcha to adulthood as a policeman in Addis Ababa.
